I thought a more appropriate image to post was one of a burning bridge, but that's beyond my artistic skills. If it's not goofy and loose, I can't render it with ink.
And, actually, a burning bridge isn't even what I'd need here to communicate my regret and guilt about the lapsed connections and friendships I'm facing now that I've decided to return to blogging. It's a bridge that's neglected and rotted and would never pass inspection. It's more like a bunch of bridges that have fallen into disrepair. I'll just say "I'm sorry." and carry on.
I'm taking some 'personal time' this whole week and I really love setting my own hours -- which tend toward the owl variety. I'm drawing and drinking beer and reading and watching crap on cable like "Teen Mom" and "Deal or No Deal".
ps. I'm currently reading a book that several people have prodded me to read: The Poisonwood Bible. I really love it so far. It's one of those novels that make me wish I was a better writer. It's that good.

I've been wishing for some personal time of my own since I started writing my books last May. Who knows maybe soon.

I will have to check out that book! Like the 'toon. Sometimes I wish my drawing skills were better. I finally handed over my logo which I dress in different themes over the years, until a friend finally (about darn time) shares that maybe I should let someone with a steadier hand take a try...hmmm!
on my favorite list is barbara kingsolver's Bean Trees. but for some reason, i held off on reading poisonwood {i think that my reaction to oprah's lemmings is key here} but i finally picked it up last fall and dude! i loved it. i marked certain lines {which i NEVER do in a non~academic book} and this is one of them:
if it catches you in the wrong frame of mind, the king james bible can make you want to drink poison in no uncertain terms.

Russ, I can't tell you how much I've missed your posts. I've wondered about you almost daily, since I use that logo you made for me every day. I am so glad you're back and okay.
i KNEW you'd like the book. I read it when it first came out, what--20 years ago? Trust me, Russ. I think I know what you will like (and DEFINITELY what you won't) better than you may know. Next, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." It's in my office, just waiting for your OK to mail it to you.
Sorry your vacay is about up. Glad it was a good one. I agree with Debra--Bean Trees, BK's first was what made me fall in love with her. She's tough to beat.

As far as 'burning bridges' ... I never think of anyone 'burning bridges' whenever they have chosen to stop blogging. Life calls and life goes on. I have missed you, especially since if it weren't for you I would still be toiling in anonymity and would not feel compelled to tell people that I may be coming to an end to my blogging career. Shoot, it has been SEVEN YEARS since my first actual post and almost three since your plug of my journal brought me any readers. Who would have known..?
I have never forgotten that, Russ. Not for one moment. I think you have posting on my journal during your hiatus a couple of times and had I known that you were journaling, I would have been reading you all along.
I think that I have mentioned that you do seem like you are happier... and that does make me smile and feel better about the world. I am glad that you are in a better place in what seems like all areas of life.
Well, the red light is flickering on and off for me... I am seriously hoping I got enough gas to get me to the next station.
