I love that you enjoyed the kindness of girls and their kind of fun. Also, it's funny how memories are entwined with smells. There are certain smells and certain songs that give me flashbacks to my childhood.
Sonny and Cher!! OMG! I love these things! I laughed so hard when I got to Carol M. and her mother's bathrobe I laughed out loud until tears were running down my face. What a PERFECT "Cher" idea. Where you Sonny? Or were you a special guest?

How can being a child be at once so terrible and so wonderful? -Cin
Did Carol have a proselytizing instinct? It could have worked with that robe. So many of your auto-b's are indelible.
I think a lot of those bully kids are little lost souls transitioning from victim(at home) to predator(in school). I sort of feel bad for them too.
I think Mary may be correct in her thoughts. I can remember the odor of permanent wave solution.
Great memory, hanging with the girls was most likely a high point, helping mold you into a caring person.

Love this. I had to ride the stupid bus for over an hour and hated it.
...Hmm... my darling brother and me used to use our Mom's housecoat for play... but for different reasons...
... and the comment about the smell of hair and cigarettes... that sounds like my ex-wife's old place of bid-ness...
... at least you had SOMEONE to play with... I have been 'dancin' by myself' my whole life ...BUT I AIN'T COMPLAIN'... JUS' SAYIN'..!
I guess you were typecast as Sonny? Funny story, Russ. (Although I particularly liked destroying stuff as a kid. Firecrackers were a blast.)
