something i miss

I'm a big fan of cable tv, but I miss seeing those old roof-mounted tv antennas. They added a little visual appeal to the landscape. I also miss the little white dot that appeared when you turned off the set.

Ahhhh, me too, and the banner that came on after all the television stations had gone off air, around 1 AM, maybe later when Friday Fright movies were done...the good ole days!

Now that IS a blast from the past. It came along with the danger of having to crawl up on the roof to point the darned thing and other not so fun things, but the two or three channels were free.

didn't they play the national anthem too before the rainbow came on?

I remember that dot! If I recall, there was usually a line when you turned it on, too. As it warmed up, then you got the picture. I don't think you can even buy black and white TVs anymore, can you? Not that I'd really want to, but they did have a certain charm.

My dad was always out turning that darn thing. We had three whole channels, 10, 12 and 3.

Yes, DirectTV dishes don't have any character, they are all the same.

Yes! And the "rabbit ears" on the television. Remember manipulating them with wire hangers and aluminum foil? hahahha. Fun. -Cin

Hmmm... I was going to make a comment not too far from Cin's comment about aluminum foil... it was often too much work to watch tv, trying to pick up the signal ...

... anywho, seeing pictures of houses with attenna's from the 60's remind me of all the social sumult that I did not get to see...

There was one still on the farm house at the ranch until just a few years ago. Someone finally took it down. They still can't get internet out there.

I haven't owned a TV in 10 years so I remain disdainfully aloof.

But yeah, I did sort of like that dot. ~Mary
