He let a kid fake-play for 4 years. That says something about him understanding what you really needed from band. I like Mr M. Great story. -Cin

i had a mr. m for band too who also passed away. he would beep and wave at me each time he saw me walking home from school, even when i was a senior. he was more old fashioned than your mr m., but he sure was kind to us kids.

You may not have learned to play, but it sounds like he had an influence on you--in a good way.

I know the feeling, musical talent is not one of my fortes.

You know, I truly love the honesty of your "flashbacks" - great post.

dude, i had mr. miles for band {i played the trumpet} during junior high {then i dropped out}. he was from philly and used to tell us that he didn't talk fast, we listened slow. that sort of thinking comes in handy now that i live in mississippi. grins, debra

I wish there were more Mr. M's in the world & less Mrs. Defillo's.

I had Mrs. M (literally) for band instructor and she freaking rocked. And I played trumpet too, still have it. Looks like shit these days and sounds even worse when I try to play it, ha ha.
