You realize this could have been an easy out for two big sisters. "We held on as tight as we could, but little Rusty just slipped right through our fingers, Mom! It is so sad. We think we will need counseling."
I'm with your Mom. I rode The Runaway Mine Train trying to hold my daughter and my purse.Didn't know which was going first. It wasn't even wild compared to what people ride now.
Lord! Your poor mother! I'm the same way about amusement parks, can't get enough of 'em. Local fairs are a different matter though. Some of those rides (not to mention the people running them!) look pretty scary!
MD is one of the states that have inspections for carnivals and fairs. A lot of states don't, however, and god knows what condition those rides are in. Then again, people DO die at Disney, too. However most of those are probably due to people ignoring the "Do not get on this ride if you have a heart condition" sign or from getting sunstroke while waiting in line. I have to give it to you Russ, heights don't bother me, but heights while the object I'm on is swaying to and fro with chunks falling off if of it would rather do me in.
i grew up with fairs, carnivals, festivals, and amusement parks; so it is odd to be in places where there are not those things. i never did like rides all that much, but i do like the whole atmosphere and activity and food!! grins, debra
Cool story..! Must not have been too traumatic otherwise that would have been in your memory. Must have been another one of your childhood adventures...
... you had to have gotten along with your sisters... man, I am SOO glad that I am the oldest... my sisters are the kind that would have pushed a cat out of the chair as a goof..!
Man, and your poor, poor Mom with ALL of her children stuck in the air..! I bet she had regrets for allowing ALL of her most precious jewels get on such a contraption..!

I loved all those things (and more) until I had a kid. Your poor Mom must have been scared almost to death. What a great story though!! -Cin

That would give me a stroke, I'm afraid of heights.
Yikes, I'm on your Mom's side on that one.
