This was an incredible post. I could hear your 'voice' as it narrated the scene. It felt wonderful and I could smell the rain and the murmur of the adults snores as they drifted deep into a well earned sleep...

Having experienced similar things as a child (although not related to a wheat harvest), I know exactly what you're talking about. Your words evoked feelings and memories, sounds and smells. Wonderful.

those types of memories are the best.

Thanks for this, Toon. My own background was more dairy than anything else (I am after all, German and a Wisconsinite!) but I recognize everything you're talking about here.
I kinda worry that that way of life is die-ing, but I guess that's the way of the world...Sad.

You made me feel like I was a kid again and right there with you, enjoying the excitement. This is an amazing post. -Cin

I so enjoyed this, Russ! Growing up in the Kansas wheat fields myself, I noticed the harvests as we drove by, but had no idea of all the 'goings on' . . . this was really fun to read. You are an excellent story teller.

Reminds me of my grandparents' farm in NC.

Just finished harvest on our farm. My mom said it came in better than thought. Now she has to worry about when to sell. :-) I'm going to go make me some of that iced tea right now. We never put sugar in it and I can't stand sweet tea to this day.

With us it was peanuts and eating on the back of a flat bed truck and drinking iced tea out of fruit jars.
