Well, at least there was a remnant of truth in the tale. As a 4-year-old, you probably thought "burned" meant "on fire", and your imagination created what you remember.

I believe you. I had a dog who caught fire by leaning on a wood stove. That dog was not "all there." -Cin

Humm a mystery! I thought I saw something a certain way in my daughter's house. When I went back upstairs it was not the way I remembred it and she says it was never that way.

Once I heard a voice speak my name as clear as a bell - it alerted me to wake up at a critical time. Do you suppose it was just early onset schizophrenia? ;)

I wonder if his fur was smoking a little bit from the heat of the oil...and that's why you remember fire.

I'll back you up, Russ. That dog was ON FIRE, boy. Flames blazing away in the hot summer sun. Lucky for him he used to be a fire dept Dalmatian in a former life and dropped & rolled right after he got out of sight.

russ, given that the dog had a burnt spot on his back, I'm thinking there were flames involved. esp since that's who you remember it. it would be a very odd thing, seeing a dog on fire, so i'm sure that it did leave the lasting impression you remember.

Maybe the running fanned the oil into flame.

Even as a kid you had an impeccable eye for what works creatively. On fire is so much better than oil burn. ~Mary

As far as your dog knew, HE WAS on fire!

Good thing that all he got out of the experience was a black spot. Hope you got to enjoy him for a long time...

Did you happen to have older brothers that may have helped create that memory? Just sayin...

These aren't the droids that you are looking for and no, that dog is not on fire.
